Dave is the Hip Replacements' only classically trained member. Dave somehow manages to juggle his band time with other commitments, which include teaching a music composition class at the Berklee College of Music and serving as Geddy Lee's bass-guitar tech and trainer during Rush's recent R30 tour. Dave and Geddy's relationship became strained when Dave suggested that Geddy's fretless work was "a little muddy," but they have since reconciled, and Dave will occasionally jet to Geddy's recording studio outside Toronto to let the creative juices flow. They are currently working on a set of baroque pieces based on Bach's Well Tempered Klavier, with Geddy on synths, Andras Schiff on piano, and Dave alternating between contrabass, sitar, and Dave's signature electric bass: the Gibson Ripper Fretless L9.
Update: The work, tentatively entitled "The Dave Hart Project", was originally scheduled for release in late 2009, but Geddy and Dave's handlers have been unable to resolve issues relating to DVD residuals in the Asia-Pacific region. Exasperated by the delay, Geddy referred to Dave as "petty and solipsistic," which caused Dave to respond that Geddy's outburst was "motivated solely by jealousy." Back to Bios |
